Why CollegeWishingWell

CollegeWishingWell is a safe and easy way to turn gifts into the driving force behind funding college for you, a dependent, or another loved one. CollegeWishingWell will accept monetary gifts from your friends and family and deposit those gifts into your college savings account. By retargeting towards college some of the money our loved ones spend on us, we allow those who care about us to contribute to our futures and provide us with a gift that will truly last a life time. The earlier you get started the better. Since these gifts get deposited into your college savings investment account, the longer the investment time, the greater the opportunity for growth.

CollegeWishingWell is not an investment company or broker. We do not provide the investment accounts. You should contact an investment company and a financial advisor if you do not already have an investment account for college savings. You should also go to our investing page, where we provide useful information to help get you started.

How CollegeWishingWell Works

An account is established for the eventual college student (the beneficiary) by the student himself or herself or by an adult who is acting in the interest of the beneficiary. Adults that usually take on this role include parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, and sisters of the beneficiary. To create an account, the account owner or sponsor will provide personal contact information and bank/investment firm routing information for the account where the funds will be deposited. Once the CollegeWishingWell account is established, the sponsor will be able to:

  • Manage the account
  • Review gift history (who, how much, and when gifts were given)
  • Use an address book created by the sponsor and gift donators.
  • Send holiday and event reminder emails or invitations to individuals in the address book.
  • Load photos, notes, and files into the account to be shared with their guests.
  • Print CollegeWishingWell.com gift registry cards, with your guest log in info, to be sent out with party invitations.

Your e-mail address will be used by guests to identify your account and ensure that every gift is deposited into the correct account. Your guests will also be able to view your pictures, files, and notes. Gifts will be deposited into the specified account after the transaction clears, which will take about seven (7) business days.

The account number and password are used to manage your account. Your account password should never be given to anyone that will not be responsible for managing the account. Guests will use only your e-mail address.

Fees

The fee structure is set up to eliminate the possibility of out of pocket expenses for the sponsor. Similarly, guests are not charged for giving a gift. All fees associated with this service are deducted during gift processing for final disbursement to the final destination account.

There are two fees, an annual fee due at the anniversary date of your account and a regular processing fee. The initial annual fee will be deducted from the first deposit into your account. The fees are as follows:

Processing fees: 2.9% + $0.70
Annual fee: $6.00 for the account and $6.00 for each beneficiary after the first.
